History

The Students for Sustainable Agriculture (SSA) club was started by a group of graduate and undergraduate students in 2003.

SSA was a social activist club working to engage the UC Davis community in a “socially just and ecologically balanced approach to agriculture.” One of their first projects was to create a “Local Foods Day” which promoted and advocated “for more direct connections between food services on campus and local farmers.” They would eventually expand the day into a week-long event which hosted speakers, movies, and food.

One of the most notable of SSA’s projects was their very influential participation in the development of creation of the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems major. SSA’s focus and level of activity varied over the years and the club has been mostly dormant for the last 5 years.
