UC Davis Community Book Project
The Campus Community Book Project is a program designed to get a diverse group of individuals reading and discussing the same book. It promotes events throughout the 2016-2017 school year that foster thoughtful examination and dialogue of the book and the issues it presents. This year’s book is Stuffed and Starved by Raj Patel, a fellow at Food First and a visiting scholar at the UC Berkeley Center for African Studies. In his novel, he investigates the dichotomy in our world, a world with almost 800 million chronically undernourished people and climbing obesity rates, between hunger and over-nourishment. The state of our world begs the questions, what about our international food systems are at the root of this disturbing fact and what is being/can be done to mitigate it? Stuffed and Starved details his journey investigating the world’s food systems and provides answers to these very pervasive questions.
